JAPANESE manufacturer Hitachi has announced that it is to merge its residential and commercial air conditioning businesses

While in Europe all Hitachi air conditioning products are sold by one company, in Japan and other parts of the world the business is split into commercial and residential operations: Hitachi Home & Life Solutions looking after residential ac and Hitachi Air Conditioning Systems looking after large ac systems including packaged air conditioning systems, chiller units and other products.
Hitachi's Consumer Business Group will now assume responsibility for overseeing all marketing and sales activities involving comprehensive air conditioning systems.

With Hitachi Europe sourcing product from just one supplier, sources in Europe expected the move to have a number of logistical and other benefits for the European business. Included in these would be improvements in product supply, r&d and new product development.
