ACR professionals are being invited to hear the Institute of Refrigeration’s president-in-waiting present solutions for the industry’s biggest bugbear –refrigerant leakage.
On October 4, IOR's in-coming president Jane Gartshore is scheduled to offer some answers to the refrigerant challenges facing industry professionals.

The open evening will highlight the problems associated with leak detection, rate different methods and recommend practical ways of reducing leaks in existing and new systems.

The afternoon event is open to non-members and members and is scheduled to take place at the Novotel Birmingham International Airport.

'The scale and environmental impact of leakage coupled with the difficulties of finding and stopping leaks make this the current number one challenge' said an IOR spokesman.

'This is particularly so in the commercial refrigeration sector where systems leak at a much higher rate than commonly acknowledged.

'Commonly used leak detection systems do not identify the majority of leaks early enough and leakage increases energy costs and service costs but not enough to provide an incentive to improve system design, installation and maintenance,' the institute said.

'It cannot give all the answers - the aim is to provide a starting point to take the industry towards significantly lower leakage and to highlight the potential role of the Institute of Refrigeration.'
