To mark this milestone, the IOR is launching a special initiative throughout 2026 to help technicians advance their careers. Starting April 1st, current subscribers can upgrade to full IOR Technician Member status for free. This upgrade allows qualified individuals to use the professional initials TMInstR after their names and provides a path to register with the Engineering Council. The offer is open to those with relevant experience and qualifications who apply before the end of the year.
The IOR is also honouring its longest-standing members. Individuals who have been part of the Section since its founding will receive a commemorative certificate to recognise their lifelong dedication to professional learning.
Bob Wright, Chair of the EngTech Section, noted that the anniversary is a perfect time to reaffirm the Institute's commitment to those working 'on the tools.' He explained that the Section remains focused on providing high-quality technical information for engineers involved in service, maintenance, and installation.
Managed by a panel of industry experts, the Section provides quarterly bulletins written by technicians for technicians. These resources are available online or via a dedicated mobile app. While individuals can join for an annual fee of £44, the IOR also offers discounted enrolment for companies wishing to register five or more staff members.
Technicians interested in the free membership upgrade can begin the process by emailing their F-Gas certificate to the IOR membership department. More information about the Section and the anniversary offer can be found on the Institute’s official website.
