I can't believe its not gutter!

Graham Hendra casts his technical eye over the daft and the dangerous work unearthed by readers
.
I can
When installing non-inverter units with no fan speed control in machine rooms, it is not uncommon that they freeze up due to the absence of any latent load.

To solve this problem conventional wisdom is to make sure the equipment is suitable for use in these applications or to modify the kit to suit the application - but that would involve looking up some data in a book or actually understanding how air conditioning works!

Why not just install a gutter under the unit instead it looks great and really reassures the customer that the unit will never leak.

To make service work easy you could also put a 60 Amp isolator on the wall as well. I mean you don’t want to undersize it do you?

If the gutter is the weapon of choice just make sure you seal it properly at the back, otherwise the water will drip down the back, defeating the object.

Whatever next lag the computer room with plastic to avoid anything getting wet.

Give me strength! I can't believe there are idiots out there still doing this!

If a comms room is worth cooling choose a unit which is designed to do the job, not a unit which is designed to cool an office.

And while you are at it you could even consider backup units etc.
