Honeywell welcomes presidents' environmental commitments

Honeywell has welcomed the environmental commitments made by President Obama and President Xi recently announced. The company says that governments need to take meaningful steps to reduce and prevent environmental degradation to air and communities.

Honeywell says it is ready to support the broad adoption of the goals that the leaders of the world’s biggest economies outlined today. It points out that sustainable development - that includes clean air and communities - is a key building block to stronger economies around the world over the long-term. Establishing emissions reduction commitments, like those highlighted by President Obama and President Xi, is critical to the success of healthier global environments.

The company believes that the leadership demonstrated by both the USA and China in outlining specific goals is an important step in the right direction and says it applauds both countries for their positive commitments. The firm said: “Technologies exist today that will help companies and government make tremendous strides immediately. Honeywell will do our part to provide the products and technologies and to reduce even further our own emissions. We should all stand ready to use existing technologies, while also continuing to innovate for a brighter future.”

A spokesperson for Honeywell said: “Honeywell will increase production of its low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants, insulation materials, aerosols and solvents, and, prior to 2020, will drive a 50 percent reduction in its annual production of high-GWP hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) on a CO2 equivalent basis. The company projects that use of its low-GWP Solstice HFC replacements will eliminate more than 350 million metric tons in CO2 equivalents by 2025, equivalent to removing 70 million cars from the road for one year.”
