Holborn Building Services secures new contract

Holborn Building Services has secured a contract to undertake planned and reactive maintenance on air conditioning systems in sites operated by West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS).

The contract from facilities management company J Tomlinson covers 24 sites, including the WMAS main headquarters, outlying ambulance station hubs, emergency call centres, drug storage areas and offices.

As well as maintaining the standard split air-conditioning units and larger VRV multi-split type air conditioning, Holborn will also maintain the close control air conditioning in the server rooms.

Holborn Building Services director, Nick Scragg, commented: “This contract win comes hot on the heels of our work upgrading the cooling system in the WMAS 999-critical server room, a project secured following a competitive pitch which reflects the strength of our offering.

“Our resources ensure we can easily fulfil the demands of the contract, including the necessary 24/7 emergency call-out service and a 4-hour response time.

“All of the equipment we will be maintaining is well-known to us, but the server room cooling system is very familiar to our engineers. We only recently installed a new close control cooling system into a live server room environment, using DencoHappel units fitted with inverter drive compressor and EC fans, driven by energy-saving motors with electronic control (electronic commutation) ensuring optimal operating efficiency.”

Barry Burdett, contract manager at J Tomlinson, said of the award: “Holborn’s track-record in delivering effectively and maintaining efficiently, high-quality air-conditioning solutions was a deciding factor in this contract award.

“Holborn’s pitch showed they understood the needs of the Trust, recognising that individuals in such high-pressure roles in a critical service need a similarly fast, responsive service when things go wrong with the cooling or air-conditioning systems.

“I have every confidence their pragmatic, can-do attitude will overcome any problems that occur during the life of the contract, which is one less thing for me and my FM team to worry about.”
