Hawco now offers Hitachi’s Inverter Scroll Technology

Hawco, a leading distributor of specialist component parts, spares and accessories to the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors, can now offer Hitachi’s new Inverter Scroll Technology. Inverter technology is so energy efficient that it could cut annual electricity costs by more than 25%, saving large retailers millions on their energy bills every year.

How it works

The Inverter Technology works by constantly regulating compressor speed rather than stopping and starting every time the temperature limitations are met, as regular fixed speed compressors do. By operating without using wasteful on-off operation, the Inverter Technology works efficiently and reliably.

The maths

A typical 1875mm plug-in refrigeration cabinet will use approximately 31kWh in a 24-hour period. Assuming that each kWh costs 8p (approximate commercial cost per kWh) and the refrigeration cabinets are powered for 365 days of the year, the annual electricity cost per cabinet would be £905 using a standard fixed speed compressor. As Hitachi’s Inverter Technology makes refrigeration between 23-30% more efficient, it could save up to £272 on energy costs per cabinet, per year.

This means that small retailers with five cabinets per store could save up to £1,360 per year on their energy bill and larger stores much more. A single supermarket store containing 30 cabinets would see an annual reduction of between £6,200 and £8,100. If that supermarket was a chain of 2,500 stores nationwide, the chain would make an estimated annual saving of between £16million and £20million! This is also a large reduction on the chain’s global footprint.

Clever design

All of this power is contained in a lightweight, compact unit which leaves more shelf space for product and also saves space outside as it doesn’t require any remote condensing units. This means that the refrigeration cabinets can be moved around to suit shop layouts and promotions.

In addition, Hawco’s expert design-in team is on hand to help users integrate Hitachi’s new inverter scroll technology into a new build application or discuss possible retrofitting into older units.

Hawco is showcasing the Inverter Scroll Technology in all three versions of Hitachi’s Horizontal Scroll Compressors at Chillventa next week. Visitors can find one of Hawco’s expert and friendly team at stand 624, Hall 7A at the Exhibition Centre in Nuremberg between 11-13 October 2016.
