Germans stop CFC fridge exports

GERMANY: A joint effort by customs officers and police in Hamburg has stopped illegal exports of waste CFC-containing refrigerators.
In recent weeks, two export shipments of a total of 87 R12 refrigerators to Burkina Faso and Ghana were stopped by customs officers of the customs office Waltershof in collaboration with the Hamburg river police.

The export of refrigeration equipment containing CFCs either as refrigerants or with CFC-blown insulation is prohibited.

The refrigerators were ordered to be properly disposed of by the owners as waste. In addition, criminal prosecutions for illegal trafficing are being considered.
