GERMANY: The German Federal Environment Agency, UBA, is reported to have called on the EC to offer Daimler a stay of execution on the MAC Directive until the end of 2015 if the German car maker agrees to replace R134a with CO2 in its car air conditioning systems.
Daimler has insisted that it will not use R1234yf - the new low GWP substitute for R134a - after its own tests cast doubts upon the safety of the mildly flammable refrigerant in the event of a crash.
The UBA told the Reuters news agency that it was not possible to switch to a CO2-based system within a shorter period of time.
