Fridges are a high priority in modern life

THE importance of refrigeration is underlined in a new survey of British adults which shows access to a fridge is one of the most important creature comforts.
A survey of 3000 adults conducted by the London Science Museum, as part of its Water Wars: Fight The Food Crisis, found the British public prize the humble fridge as one of the most important thing in their lives.

The refrigerator ranked as the fourth most important feature in their lives ahead of the NHS, cookers and even access to a flushing toilet. The fridge was beaten only by sunshine, clean drinking water, and some would say perversely the internet.

The 50 top things that people couldn't do without also included air conditioning which ranked at no.38, and the freezer at no.49.
