Fridge-freezer explodes on Isle of Wight

AN ISOBUTANE refrigerant leak in a domestic fridge-freezer is thought to have been the cause of an explosion which rocked a house in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, on Monday morning. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident which occurred just after 7am but the elderly resident was left in shock.
This latest incident involving domestic refrigerators charged with hydrocarbon refrigerant, follows a number of similar incidents reported by ACR News over the last few years. These have included incidents in the Midlands and Yorkshire in 2009 and again in Yorkshire in 2010. In 2009, Samsung initiated a recall of as many as 500,000 fridge freezers after an explosion of one of its units in Seoul.
