Foster Refrigeration nominated a Green Leader

FOSTER REFRIGERATION is named a semi finalist in Barclays' green business awards.
Based in Norfolk, Foster Refrigeration has outperformed hundreds of green businesses and been named a semi- finalist in the 2008 Barclays Commercial Bank Green Leaders in Business Awards.

The awards recognise those companies who are using pioneering processes or new sustainable technology, products or services to help beat climate change and, crucially, boost their own profits.

Foster Refrigeraton, competing in the large business category, is now one of four companies in this group hoping to be selected as a National Green Leader in Business.

Foster Refrigeration's cooling systems technoloy has been recognised for improving the performance of commercial fridges in the UK.

Founded in 1968 and based in Kings Lynn, more than 99% of the materials used in Foster Refrigeration's cabinets are recyclable and are tested to ensure zero gas leakage.

Foster Refrigeration says it was also the first company to replace the now banned R12 refrigerant with safer gases such as hydrocarbons.

More recently, the company was asked to develop a unique water condenser system for its products to link into Heathrow Terminal Five's chilled water main, eliminating heat emissions into the terminal and trapping them for re-use.

Foster Refrigeraton is one of 25 companies battling it out to be named as one of 12 national finalists, who will be invited to present to an expert judging panel, including The Carbon Trust and the WWF, who will decide the winners of the three business categories.

Green Leaders in Business was open to all UK and Irish companies, and has three separate categories - companies with a turnover below £1m; between £1m and £20m; and above £20m.

The winners will be revealed at a gala luncheon in London on September 9.
