Fire destroys Hitachi's air conditioning factory in India

INDIA: The Hitachi air conditioning factory in Gujarat, India, has been destroyed by fire, according to reports.

More than 90% of the 24,000m2 factory and its stock is said to have been destroyed in Wednesday night's fire. There have been no reported casualties and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

The first Hitachi brand air conditioner was manufactured at the plant in 1999 and its current capacity is thought to be around 350,000 units per year.
