F-gas regs could be tightened next year

THE European commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, has suggested that a further tightening of the F-gas regulations can be expected next year.
Speaking on CO2 reductions this week, the commissioner acknowledged that the Regulation had already contributed to EU commitments under the Kyoto Protocol and would adopt the review produced by Öko-Recherche 'in the coming weeks'.

'If properly applied, the Regulation on certain fluorinated gases (F-gases) could, together with the Directive on mobile air-conditioning, prevent almost half of the projected fluorinated gas emissions by 2050,' she said. 'Even more importantly, the report shows that there are options which could contribute to further cost-effective reductions. Therefore, I intend to put forward a legislative proposal in 2012.'
