Eligible entries must involve operational refrigeration, air conditioning, or heat pump systems in industrial, commercial, or domestic settings. Submissions must include performance data confirming environmental impact and energy efficiency. The award is open to companies and collaborative initiatives. All entries must address at least four of the seven IOR priority areas:
- Maximising system performance
- Using best technology
- Balancing heating and cooling
- Reducing the need for cooling
- Intelligent energy use
- Developing relevant skills
- Adopting whole system lifecycle approaches
In 2025, the award was presented to the Smart Parc Energy Centre in Derby, a project by GEA Heating & Refrigeration Solutions. The centre uses an integrated heating and cooling network to redistribute waste heat. GEA’s Noor Ahmed MInstR noted the award’s role in raising awareness of sustainable cooling technologies across the sector.
