Ellis Training launches new City & Guilds Qualification for A/C Installers

Ellis Training Works have gained approval from City & Guilds for a new course, the 'City & Guilds 2081 - Split Air Conditioning System Installation & Commissioning'.
The qualification is exclusive to Ellis Training Works and is designed for people who are installing and commissioning split air conditioning systems or those who would like to get involved in this rapidly growing sector.

Once candidates have completed the course and have been duly assessed, they will have the appropriate skills and knowledge to install and commission split air conditioning systems that comply with current European and British Standards and Regulations.

The aim of the qualification is to introduce, train, assess and qualify where appropriate candidates from all sections of the RAC industry to the Installation and Commissioning of Split Air Conditioning Systems. It will enable them to enhance their skills and gain the necessary knowledge in this part of the air conditioning sector.

Successful candidates will have shown that they can:-

  • Plan an installation and carryout necessary minor building works

  • Fabricate, connect and fit pipework and insulation

  • Carryout necessary 'strength and leak' pressure tests

  • Connect the electrical supply from isolator to units

  • Evacuate and dehydrate the installed pipework

  • Adjust refrigerant charge

  • Commission and test the installed system

  • 'Hand over' system to customer

Candidates will also be sufficiently knowledgeable about the Building Regulation requirements and Competent Person Scheme operators.

This qualification has been designed and developed by Ellis Training Works in response to the ever growing demand for split air conditioning systems in offices, factory units and of course at home.

Ellis Training Works experience is that many refrigeration and building service contractors are considering diversifying their businesses into this area and this training programme will enable them to train their staff to a standard where they can be confident that systems are installed and commissioned right first time.

Correctly installed and commissioned split A/C systems can provide both cooling and heating, cost effectively and efficiently. Domestic 'heat pump' systems are very popular with conservatory owners because they can provide both cooling in summer and heating in winter. All such A/C systems are covered by Building Regulations (Part F, Part L).

Ellis Training Works have been delivering City & Guilds qualifications in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning since the early nineties and are the leading provider of City & Guilds Safe Handling of Refrigerants training and assessment packages. City & Guilds 6127 Technical Certificate and 6087 NVQ training and assessment programmes are also delivered by the company along with a range of CITB brazing and basic electrical qualifications.
