DuPont shuts down another refrigerant counterfeiter in UAE

UAE: DuPont, working with the aid of law enforcement in the UAE, claims to have made a significant seizure of counterfeit DuPont SUVA refrigerants in Sharjah.
DuPont is said to have become aware of the counterfeit refrigerant sold and stored by refrigerant trader Sunrise, through a preventive programme of the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DDED). The trader stored his goods in the neighbouring emirate of Sharjah. Inspectors from the Sharjah Department of Economic Development (SDED) alerted a DuPont representative in the UAE of a third-party complaint filed against Sunrise Air Conditioning Spare Parts Trading Co, Ltd.

The investigation confirmed that the company was in possession of counterfeit refrigerant cylinders carrying the trademarks DuPont and SUVA as well as trademarks of another major manufacturer.

The seizure resulted in the confiscation of 3,100 units of fake DuPont 134a refrigerants and 6,000 units of fake product from the other unnamed manufacturer.

As a consequence of the counterfeit activity, DuPont says that Sunrise Airconditioning Spare Parts Trading LLC was required to a pay a fine to the UAE Government for the crime committed, and was required to make additional payments to cover costs related to storage of the seized goods, painting and repackaging the cylinders without the DuPont trademarks, and exporting them as unbranded refrigerant.

Earlier this year DuPont managed to shut down another counterfeit trader in Dubai, seizing machines, printing templates, cylinders and counterfeit packaging used in the production of fake DuPont Freon R22.
