Stowe School is a co-educational independent boarding school in Stowe, Buckinghamshire. Dunham-Bush BM Fan convectors have been installed within the ceiling voids at the new Science Centre at the school to provide a comfortable working environment for the students.

Steve Burgess, regional director of Stepnell Construction, said: ”The new £6m building has created a facility that provides eighteen generously sized laboratories, six each for chemistry, biology, physics; a sixth form study centre and six lecture theatres, one of which can accommodate up to sixty students.”

The new, two-storey contemporary building has been built on the existing footprint of the original building and blends new with old in the most sensitive and agreeable manner. The awe-inspiring fully glazed atrium, blended with Bath stone, welcomes you inside.

Devanthi Weerakoon, senior engineer at Hoare Lea LLP, was challenged with providing a heating system, which would not only work to the maximum efficiency within the sound power levels demanded by the requirements of the laboratories and lecture theatre, but also provide heating to the various areas precisely when required. To achieve this, a ceiling void mounted heating system was designed, capable of responding quickly and efficiently to the demands of the individual areas.

The quick response time of the Dunham-Bush BM Fan Convectors provided the client with the most suitable solution. The BM units were installed within the ceiling voids of the building, with the discharge grilles the only visible evidence of the heating emitter system.

Rob Basey, project manager for Scion Technical Services, who undertook the installation of the heating and air conditioning equipment, said: ”It was an interesting project to work on, it integrated the most modern technologies to achieve the best solution for the buildings usage and provided the client with a modern and comfortable environment for studying”.
