Double win for TCUK at the ACR News Awards

Toshiba Carrier UK (TCUK) received two major accolades in the ACR News Awards 2020, winning Chiller Product of the Year for Carrier’s AquaEdge 19DV centrifugal chiller and Air Conditioning Auxiliary of the Year for the company’s pioneering mini-touchscreen room controller. TCUK is a joint venture between Toshiba Carrier Corporation and Carrier in the United Kingdom, and is part of Carrier Global Corporatio, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, fire, security and building automation technologies.

The AquaEdge 19DV water-cooled centrifugal chiller runs on ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) R-1233zd(E) refrigerant, effectively future-proofing end users from changes in F-Gas legislation. It has several innovative features, including ceramic bearings that last the life of the chiller, and a Variable Frequency Drive design that protects the chiller against “dirty power.”

With built-in capabilities for variable flow, heat recovery, free cooling, series and parallel operation, dual temperature systems, and ground source energy extraction, the 19DV chiller is designed to offer the ultimate in flexible and efficient cooling and heating technology. The judges praised the chiller’s design for its total-system approach, saying, “The result is a chiller that is reliable, efficient and effectively future-proof.”

TCUK’s ground-breaking new mini-touchscreen room controller operates on the same principles as a high-end Smart phone, with a crystal-clear icon-driven screen designed to be intuitive and easy-to-use for the end user, and simple to install for contractors.

The easy-clean screen can be customised to match any room décor, with up to 30 backgrounds available to create different moods, or sales messages. For installers, the unit uses the same two-wire connectivity as a standard controller, so it can easily be installed onto new and existing systems without the need for an external power supply.

The judges said of the product, “The new controller is contemporary, easy-to-use and enables users to create the perfect comfort conditions they desire. It also gives clients the opportunity to create a modern and stylish statement.”

The controller is now being specified by some of the UK’s leading hotel chains.

“We are naturally delighted to have been recognised for both of these achievements, which in their respective areas represent major steps forward for the industry in terms of design, technology and user benefits,” said David Dunn, managing director of TCUK. “The Air Conditioning Auxiliary award is doubly pleasing, as the mini-touchscreen controller was developed locally here in the UK in response to customer needs. My congratulations and thanks to everyone involved – it is the result of a great team working closely with our customers to push the boundaries forward.”
