In 1991 founding directors Gareth Chambers and John Drain signed the papers to establish the firm, marking the start of a business which has grown considerably from the initial refrigeration and air conditioning contracting services it offered.

Today, DCI employs more than 60 people. Its head office occupies 10,000sq/ft and it also has a nearby manufacturing facility with 15,000sq/ft of production and storage space.

Gareth said: “We’ve come a long way since those early days. Back then John and I were keeping customers’ equipment healthy and efficient with servicing and repairs.  That continues to be a large and essential part of our business, of course, but we now design, manufacture and install refrigeration plant and unique, low noise condenser solutions.”

He continued: “The industry has seen many changes in the last two and a half decades and we’re convinced our commitment to the highest technical skills and focus on outstanding customer service has played a major role in us coming so far. Today, every project is unique and our incredible team works to deliver solutions that overcome on-site challenges and environmental factors to maximise efficiency and minimise energy consumption.”

Starting out with primarily retail clients, DCI now has a diverse customer base - from fruit warehouses and plant nurseries to convenience stores, wine cellars and banking institutions. The company also runs the south of England’s only CO2 training and testing facility providing an invaluable live training resource for refrigeration engineers.  In addition, DCI’s established electrical division providing repair and installation services along with full compliance and testing capabilities for all different types of businesses.

Looking ahead to the next 25 years, DCI believes the tactics employed so far will continue to reap rewards for the business. Gareth said: “We’ve always been mindful of the need to continually reinvest in the business, not just in terms of finances but also in the handing on of skills and expertise. Get them both right and you can benefit not only from financial stability but also from a team with the abilities to go on delivering first class products and services that both win new clients and retain our valued customers.”
