Danfoss to buy Carrier/Bristol scroll compressor business

DANFOSS A/S is to acquire Scroll Technologies, the 50/50 US joint venture business owned by Carrier and York's Bristol compressor business.
Scroll Technologies was set up in 1995 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to produce Carrier's Millenium compressor and Bristol's Infinity. Scroll Technologies has 750 employees, manufactures over 500,000 compressors a year with revenues of $125m.

'This is an important step and an historic acquisition for Danfoss. We have now ensured ourselves a very attractive position in the compressor market for air conditioning in commercial buildings,' said executive vice president & COO of Danfoss, Niels Christiansen.
'Divestiture of Carrier's 50 percent stake in Scroll Technologies to a world class compressor manufacturer is a positive development,' responded Geraud Darnis, president of Carrier Corp. 'It further focuses Carrier's manufacturing operations and supports continued technology investments in Scroll Technologies. This is consistent with Carrier's strategy of sourcing a substantial part of its compression needs from global and focused compressor manufacturers, including Danfoss.'
Speaking for Johnson Controls, the new owners of the Bristol compressor business, executive vice president John Kennedy said 'Danfoss is able to provide the dedicated focus it takes to continue the positive development of the company.'
Scroll Technologies will be integrated into the Danfoss Commercial Compressors organisation, which already runs three scroll compressor factories in France, USA and China.
'We have high expectations for the continued growth and development of this business area. We have been producing scroll compressors for several years, and we consider this technology to be an important element in addressing the increasing demand for efficient and environmentally sound solutions in our market. We are proud that we now have a complete range of scroll compressors with capacities from three to 30 tons,' said Vagn Helberg, president of the Danfoss Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Division.
Danfoss intends to acquire 100% of the equity in Scroll Technologies and will continue production at the present facilities.
