DENMARK: The boss of Danish refrigeration equipment manufacturer Danfoss, has threatened to move production abroad unless conditions for Danish manufacturers improve.
In an interview for Danish magazine
Mandag Morgen, the presdient and ceo of one of Denmark's leading employers warned that the company would not place any new production in Denmark without a drastic improvement of conditions for production companies. He gave the politicians 10 years to reverse the trend.
Referring to Denmark's rising labour costs and a GDP which has declined significantly from 16% in 2000 to 11% today, he is reported as saying 'If Denmark does not take some industrial policy initiatives now, production workers in Denmark will be a dying breed in 10 years because Denmark is not competitive.
'I do not think that it is too late to reverse the trend in Denmark, because competences is here yet,' he added. 'But it is a short-lived and the spectre is England, which over the last 10 years has gone from a location as the historic industrial nation to a country on track to phase out all significant production.
'We are not like England, beyond the point of no return, but we need to change the curve,' he added.
