Daikin's recycling up for global green award

DAIKIN UK’s recycling scheme has been shortlisted in the World Business Green Awards for the ‘Best Leadership Driving Change’ category.
Under Daikin's recycling scheme, air conditioning that has reached the end of its life, whatever the manufacturer, is collected from site and taken to an authorised WEEE recycler.

Once there, the equipment is dismantled in such a way that any hazardous substances are destroyed and reprocessed, with up to 95% of the residual matter reclaimed for further use.

The company's recycling initiative goes beyond current legislation governing the sector, setting industry standards.

For installers, the scheme removes the hassle of having to dispose of end of life air conditioning themselves and helps give them a competitive advantage by improving their business credentials. For end-users, tthe service enables them to act in an eco-friendly way.

The awards, sponsored by CNN, are specifically designed to identify the best eco-companies in the world and champion the work they are doing.

Mark Dyer, marketing manager at Daikin UK said 'It is testament to Daikin's environmental commitment and the dedication of our employees that our recycling scheme has been introduced way ahead of its time in the industry. We our extremely proud of this and are delighted to have been shortlisted for such a high profile award.'

The World Business Green Awards take place at the end of November in London.
