DAIKIN Europe is to construct a zero energy office, utilizing heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation and solar cells as part of its contribution to a major cross-border project to develop zero energy building concepts. Daikin and the Zeller Group, a German contractor, will construct the house and install the various technologies and monitoring equipment in the building at Herten, Germany.
The project is scheduled for completion in July 2010. Testing, monitoring and tours to interested parties are starting in July 2010 for a 12-month period. New technologies currently under development will be added to the project in 2012. Similar projects are planned by Daikin Europe for France in the autumn of 2011 and in the UK and/or Italy in the spring of 2012.

A number of major research and educational institutions, including CETIAT (France), Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (Germany), Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT (Germany), Technische Universität (Germany) and the UK's University of Manchester, are also involved in the project.

The German Energy Agency DENA will be requested to grant green building certification in order to become a part of the EU's Greenbuilding Programme.
