Daikin linked with purchase of Sharp air conditioning business

JAPAN: Daikin have been named as a potential buyer of the Sharp air conditioning business in unconfirmed news reports emanating from Japan.
The Nikkei reported that Sharp, with debts of 1.25 trillion yen, was considering selling its copier and air-conditioner businesses. According to the Nikkei, Sharp has signed contracts with two overseas consulting firms to help it determine which assets to sell. Sharp has denied the claims and Daikin has not commented.

While having a presence in Europe - mainly in central and eastern Europe - Sharp has only ever flirted with the UK market, the units once being available through the former Climate Equipment in the 1980s.

The company specialises in residential air conditioning with a range of portable, splits and multi splits.
