A NEW plant in the Czech Republic has been built by Emerson Climate Technologies, the world’s leading provider of air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions.

Emerson Climate Technologies have invested EUR 25m in building the manufacturing facility in Mikulov in the Czech Republic. From October, it ramped up production for the European market of large semi-hermetic compressors, DWM Copeland models with four, six and eight cylinders as well as condensing units. The company says the factory reinforces its traditionally strong position in the market as manufacturer of semi-hermetic products.

Emerson Climate technologies' existing plant in Welkenraedt, Belgium, where these models had been produced up to now, will gradually start to focus solely on the manufacturing of medium-sized and large Copeland scroll compressors. The large growth of the scroll compressor market has led to the firm's decision to focus this Belgium site on the exclusive production of Copeland scroll compressors.

At the Welkenraedt site, the firm has invested several million Euros in a new production line for the second generation commercial scroll platform. The line sets a new benchmark in scroll manufacturing with a high level of automation.

'The division of labour within the European production sites has become necessary due to the increasing market demand for scroll technology and the success of Copeland scroll compressors in the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating industry', said Jean Janssen, President of Emerson Climate Technologies in Europe.

'At the same time the new investment for semi-hermetic compressors shows the long-term commitment to the refrigeration industry', he added.

The new 38,000 square metre facility in Mikulov is being billed by the firm as a modern plant in terms of productivity, environmentally friendly manufacturing, quality and ergonomics.

'In 2008, the site will furthermore open the doors to a European engineering center. Our objective is to bring together manufacturing, research and development to achieve a particularly fast time-to-market so that customers can benefit earlier from product innovations,' he added.

The plant in Mikulov is the firm's second facility in the Czech Republic. The location was chosen based on the experience the company had with its existing Czech location in Kolin and Mikulov's strategic position, situated in the heart of Europe, close to the Austrian border. Mikulov is well-placed to promptly supply all of the European market and drive the expansion in Eastern Europe and Russia.
