Cooling technology benefits Czeched out in green debate

NEW and up-coming EU laws affecting the cooling and refrigeration industry were discussed in Prague as part of an educational workshop organised by the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE).
How new cooling technologies and environmental policies can drive gains in energy efficiency, renewable energy use and greater building efficiency helped direct discussion at the workshop aimed at giving Czech stakeholders an introduction to EU laws impacting the industry.

Energy efficiency goals, rules for operating air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and renewable energy goals to boost technologies such as heat pumps were discussed.

The workshop, on November 20, was co-organised by EPEE, the Czech Association for Cooling and Air Conditioning, and the Society of Environmental Engineering.

Friedrich P. Busch, Director General of EPEE, said: “We were particularly pleased to hold our event in Prague in light of the upcoming Czech Presidency of the European Union. Our discussion highlighted the enormous potential of new heating and cooling technologies, improved working practices, combined with a good partnership with public authorities, to really deliver gains in energy efficiency and carbon reductions”.

EPEE’s workshop received the support of the Czech Environment Ministry, which is interested in discussing the role of renewable energy technologies in the fight against climate change.

EPEE hopes to hold similar outreach events in other new member states to promote awareness of upcoming EU rules impacting the industry, professionals and consumers.
