THOSE involved in the air conditioning industry are invited to comment and contribute to a study supporting the European Energy-using Products Directive
The Directive is intended to help consumers distinguish between products with higher or lower environmental impacts. It covers a range of product types, including air conditioners.
Environmental impacts include energy use, water use, noise levels and recyclability of component parts, along with minimising the general environmental footprint of products over their life-cycle.

A preparatory study has started to consider whether and which eco-design requirements should be set for air-conditioners, and the potential scale of the total environmental impact across Europe.
The study seeks active participation from stakeholders willing to contribute by, for example, providing information and constructive comment. This can be done through the project website and/or participation in stakeholder meetings.
The Directive 2005/32/EC on the Eco-design of Energy-using Products (EuP) was adopted by the European Parliament on July 6, 2005.
For nearly two years air conditioners with cooling power of less than 12kW have the EU efficiency label, informing the consumer about the energy consumption as well as the noise.
