HUURRE Group Oy, the parent of UK contractor WR Refrigeration, has formed a joint venture with Italian CO
2 fridge specialist Enex Srl.
The joint venture, called Huurre ECO, brings together Enex's specialism in carbon dioxide cooling with Huurre's resources and market strength. Huurre ECO will offer a consulting and design service for environmentally friendlier refrigeration, with Huurre Group firms installing and servicing the new generation of plants.
The venture gives WR Refrigeration direct access to Enex expertise to strengthen its position in the design and supply of eco solutions to the UK market.
Hugh Cole, managing director of WR Refrigeration said: 'The launch of Huurre ECO is excellent news for our customers in the UK, many of whom are looking for proven carbon dioxide-based solutions. Through us they now have unique access to the deep experience of the leading pioneer in the field'.
He added: 'Some time ago we identified CO
2 as a key technology for the future - and have invested in a state-of-the-art demonstration facility in Birmingham. We will be extending this in the near future. We believe that demand for CO
2 systems will grow significantly, particularly in the retail and food storage sector, as a result of rising concern over climate change and the global warming potential of mainstream HFC refrigerants. It is a trend that is already accelerating in the UK.'
Following the agreement, Huurre becomes a minority shareholder in Enex Srl and a majority shareholder in Huurre ECO.
