In light of legislation being constantly reviewed and tightened concerning the use of refrigerant products, and the planned future phase-out of HFCs, producers are under increased pressure to develop sustainable alternatives with less environmental impact. Solstice yf (1234yf) forms part of Honeywell's recently-launched Solstice range of HFOs and HFO blends, a 4th generation of refrigerants developed with low environmental impact.
Solstice yf is already being used extensively in the car AC market, as a replacement for R134a and with a GWP value of just 4, has virtually no impact on the environment, breaking down and disappearing from the atmosphere in just 11 days, compared with R134a's 13 year lifespan. Solstice yf is just as effective as R134a, offering comparable cooling abilities in all climates, and the product has been verified as safe to use in automobiles following extensive testing by third parties and car manufacturers.
