CIBSE unveils redeveloped HQ with £1.2m Manly Trust Skills Hub

CIBSE has officially opened its newly redeveloped London headquarters and confirmed a transformational £1.2 million donation from The Manly Trust to establish The Manly Trust Skills Hub at the heart of the building. The contribution is the largest single donation in CIBSE’s 129-year history as a registered charity and marks a significant investment in the future skills of the building services engineering profession.

The redevelopment creates a modern centre for learning, collaboration and professional development, with new conference, training and flexible workspaces designed to support a rapidly evolving industry. The Skills Hub will expand CIBSE’s educational offer and provide hands-on learning aligned with digital engineering, AI-enabled workflows and low-carbon design.

Trustees of The Manly Trust said the project reflects the charity’s long-standing commitment to supporting engineering education. David Manly described a “natural synergy” between the Trust’s mission and CIBSE’s vision for the Hub, while fellow Trustee Ewen Rose said the partnership represents a legacy investment intended to support young engineers “for years and generations to come”.

CIBSE CEO Ruth Carter said the donation would accelerate the Institution’s plans to deliver a world-class learning environment and strengthen its ability to prepare engineers for future challenges. She emphasised the importance of philanthropic support in enabling CIBSE to deliver long-term public benefit as a charity.

The funding forms a central part of CIBSE’s Building for the Future campaign, which aims to secure investment in facilities and resources for the next generation of engineers. The new spaces will also be available for external hire to support wider industry engagement and the long-term sustainability of the headquarters.

The Manly Trust Skills Hub is a lasting legacy of the partnership, supporting CIBSE’s commitment to advancing knowledge, skills, and professional excellence across the built environment.
