CIBSE (the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) are calling for papers ahead of the 7th annual Technical Symposium in 2017.
With the title ‘Delivering resilient, high performance buildings’, the Symposium is designed to reflect the CIBSE and ASHRAE themes of ‘Adapt Today to Shape Tomorrow’ and ‘Improving performance’ respectively and will examine the potential of resilience to drive building performance.
The Symposium will take place at Loughborough University on the 5th and 6th of April next year and will be held jointly by CIBSE and ASHRAE.
Papers can include anything, from a published piece of research, to a slideshow presentation, on a variety of topics including innovative engineering solutions, the development of knowledge-based tools and improving and maintaining occupant wellbeing.
The chosen speakers will then present their work to their peers in the auditorium, as well as take part in seminar and poster sessions with other professionals at the cutting edge of their fields. Topics from across the industry will be considered: including building related energy, comfort, IEQ, acoustic, electrical systems, IT, lighting, thermal performance, public health, transportation, facilities and information management, ventilation and associated systems. Material is invited that is based on recent or current research and application as well as the actual or potential impact on the built environment.
CIBSE president John Field said: “The Symposium is one of the biggest events in the CIBSE calendar because this is where we see the huge amount of technical expertise that we can bring to bear in this industry, and this year we’re delighted to be working with our partners ASHRAE to showcase another crop of industry-leading presentations.”
He added: “My year as President will be focused on showing the world at large the brilliant work our industry does, and there’s no better example of it than this event. Engineers will come up with the solutions today that will shape tomorrow, and this Symposium brings them together to make that happen.”
'ASHRAE is pleased to partner with CIBSE on this joint technical symposium,' ASHRAE president David Underwood said. 'The theme, Delivering Resilient High Performance Buildings, is one that resonates with built environment industry members around the globe. In the future, we must look for new solutions in improving resiliency. This symposium brings together the best and brightest minds to find those solutions.”
