Emergency chiller hire cools hospital

Engineers from Andrews Sykes Chiller Hire Division were quick to respond to a call from a prominent Kent hospital when its chiller broke down without warning.  The breakdown would have devastating effect on a hospital already under severe pressure to cope with increasing patient demand for treatment.

Some of the key centres affected by lack of cooling were a urology centre, vascular unit and cardiac catheter suite. The unexpected chiller breakdown meant that operations and specialist treatments would be cancelled or delayed unless a temporary solution was found quickly to keep these major theatres operational.

With more than 35 depots nationwide, one of the largest chiller hire fleets available and a proven pedigree in supporting the healthcare sector Andrews Chiller Hires quickly became the preferred organisation to contact.  A regional technician visited the hospital the same day that the emergency call for help was received.

This prompt response resulted in recommendation of using a 100kW chiller.  Engineers from Andrews Chillers worked through the night to install the temporary chiller, positioning it at ground level outside the premises, with hoses running up the building to the second floor for coupling to the existing flow and return connections of faulting chiller.  The redundant hospital chiller was then available for repair and maintenance whilst the Andrews chiller fulfilled its duties of maintaining ideal temperatures within the building.

In hospitals and other healthcare environments, it is absolutely critical that medical equipment is kept at the correct temperature to ensure it remains functional and fit for purpose. When cooling equipment fails, it can have devastating repercussions for operational efficiency and delays for patients awaiting much-needed treatment.  The swift reaction by Andrews Chiller Hire following the emergency callout prevented the seemingly inevitable delay of medical treatment being carried out.

At this prominent Kent hospital, the gradual expansion of specialist departments has led to an increasing number of patients using the facility each year. As a result, it is now estimated that as many as 400,000 people visit annually (1,400 every day). These growing figures has put extra pressure on an already strained service and means that delays in patient treatment due to faulty cannot really be tolerated.  The swift intervention of Andrews Chiller Hire played a key role in restoring treatment plans.
