Carrier has been chosen by one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies to design and manufacture custom-made cooling units that address the complexities of process cooling on an oil rig.
Carrier Marine & Offshore Systems’ experts designed custom cooling solutions to address the specific challenges of the Egina deep offshore oil and gas field in Nigeria, located 130km offshore, at a water depth of 1,750m.
Carrier was selected because of its innovative design approach and capability to implement a precise process cooling application on the floating production, storage and offloading unit connected to the submarine station.
Managing director, Carrier Marine & Offshore Systems, Diederik van Steenis, said: “Our experts are able to fully customise these process cooling units for oil and gas applications, demonstrating their ability to deliver optimal solutions for demanding conditions. Carrier’s track record of reliability has solidified its position as a valued supplier for oil and gas providers.”
The Carrier AquaForce 30XW chillers used for the project were reinforced for the offshore environment with additional protection, stainless steel components, high-reliability cable gland and additional painting layers. Dedicated laboratory tests have been run to demonstrate performance and compliance with all major offshore certifications. In order to facilitate the equipment integration into the platform design, the documentation was released prior to the unit delivery, and specific component tags have been added to match customer-specific marking standards.
