Britannic dive brings death of ac firm's MD

THE managing director of a Midlands-based air-conditioning firm has died of 'the bends' while diving for the National Geographic in the Aegean Sea.
Britannic dive brings death of ac firm
Carl Spencer, 37, was part of a team of divers filming the wreckage of the Britannic, (120 metres down) when he began showing signs of decompression sickness.

Spencer, whose ac firm Spencair is based in Cannock, was pronounced dead in a naval hospital in Athens after a dive to explore the wreckage, which lies south east of the capital.

The Staffordshire firm Spencair was started by the father-of-two in 2003.

Sanyo Air Conditioners and Birmingham-based distributor Easy Air Conditioning previously sponsored Spencer's work with Titanic filmmaker James Cameron to explore the Titanic wreck for the production 'Ghosts of the Abyss'.

Carl Spencer had been diving since he was five years old. 'The bends' can occur when divers surface too quickly and nitrogen forms bubbles in the blood supply.
