BOC trials cryogenic refrigeration in trucks

UK: BOC has initiated trials of Frostcruise, a cryogenic alternative to diesel-powered mechanical refrigeration in refrigerated transport systems.
Frostcruise has been developed by BOC's parent The Linde Group, and uses the cryogenic effect of liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196°C. It is said to be able to maintain accurate product temperature throughout the truck compartment during multiple delivery stops, reducing the risk of food spoilage and improving food safety.

As the technology does not rely on vehicle engines to perform the cooling process it is substantially quieter and can also run independently in the event of a mechanical breakdown.
