Bitzer to build scroll plant in Syracuse

GERMAN compressor manufacturer Bitzer is to build a $30m scroll compressor factory in Carrier Air Conditioning’s heartland in Syracuse.
The new facility will create nearly 300 jobs at a former General Motors facility in Salina, just outside Syracuse.
The company will receive a $1.4m grant from the local development corporation, $100,000 of which will be used for a collaborative research and development project involving Syracuse University.

The new central New York location will be just the second US-based manufacturing facility for the company.

Bitzer Scroll currently occupies 3,300 square feet of leased space housing mostly design and manufacturing engineers. The company will immediately expand into 60,000 square feet at the Salina Power Park and expects to develop a stand alone facility in central New York by 2011.
