Australia: Refrigeration company to be tried for employee fatality

An Australian refrigeration company, Cool Dynamics is to stand trial after one of its employees died in a gas explosion.

According to the Herald Sun, Joe Cosentino, a 25-year-old refrigerator mechanic, was killed by the blast outside his Mulgrave home just two weeks before Christmas 2011. A hearing this week revealed that the explosion is believed to have been caused by a gas leak from one of six cylinders kept in Mr Cosentino’s work van.

Cool Dynamics is facing charges of failing to provide a safe working environment, failing to provide training and failing to ensure persons were not exposed to risk.
