Arup engineering graduates benefit from work placement with Daikin

Daikin UK has facilitated a two-week work placement of four participants as part of the Arup graduate engineer training scheme at Daikin factories in Ostend and Brussels.

Daikin UK has facilitated a two-week work placement of four participants as part of the Arup graduate engineer training scheme at Daikin factories in Ostend and Brussels.

From 2nd November, the graduates from Arup spent two weeks attending workshops, seminars, factory tours, lectures and simulations at the Daikin factory in Ostend and offices in Brussels.

Classroom learning was combined with hands-on experience at the Ostend factory and time at European Design Centre in Brussels. Daikin shared experience of design processes, best practice and quality assurance, with the graduates receiving detailed practical and technical training on a wide range of topics including specification, system design, Building Information Modeling (BIM) and selection tools.

National specification manager at Daikin UK, Karen Perry, said: “The climate control industry is extremely dynamic, rapidly changing due to technological and legislative evolution. These innovations drive product development and new and improved methods of delivering ever more effective and efficient climate control solutions.”

She continued:  “At Daikin, we have a passion for HVAC and Refrigeration and want to use it to help shape the future of our industry – investing in the brightest young graduates to give them a competitive edge and a kickstart to their career.

“Consequently, the Arup graduate training scheme as well as Daikin’s in-house apprenticeships and UK Graduate training days are vital mechanisms to share expertise and insight. Educating new and future engineers on upcoming trends and legislation that will impact on the sector and their career, such as next generation refrigerants like R32 and the future of VRV, is of paramount importance to the continued success of the sector.”

This opportunity, a first for Daikin UK and Arup combined, will continue to grow and develop, with future dates in planning already.
