The case study focuses on the recent year-long retrofit programme at BAE Systems’ Warton site in the UK, which has returned annual energy savings of 70%-80% on computer room air conditioning, equivalent to £350,000 per annum, with a payback of less than 15 months. The large-scale programme of component upgrades, controls integration and system refinements has also enabled BAE Systems to maximise resilience of its installation where critical testing and production of combat and training aircraft is carried out.
Airedale International, in conjunction with BAE Systems, will present a case study that will demonstrate the considerable energy savings available by implementing component and controls upgrades to legacy facilities, in a first for the Energy Show.

The presentation will be delivered by Jon Farmer, energy manager, BAE Systems - Military Air & Information (MAI) and Adrian Trevelyan, Airedale International’s UK aftersales manager (pictured).
Speaking about the increased demand in retrofit work being undertaken by Airedale Adrian said: “The efficiency savings resulting from a retrofit programme can be substantial, with surprisingly rapid returns on investment. Normally you would expect a payback of 24-30 months on a project of this type but with BAE Systems we achieved this within just 15 months.
“We’re increasingly dealing with very savvy energy managers tasked with achieving challenging energy performance objectives. In many cases, the easy wins have already been made so they need more of a ‘solutions’ partner who can work with them on a long-term basis rather than provide a quick fix.”
