Air conditioning compliance needs government action

CIBSE has called for Trading Standards to be replaced as the body responsible for air conditioning inspection compliance, after new figures show compliance rates are running at less than 5%.
CIBSE says it believes it is time to take action and bring this to the attention of government.

Speaking at the launch of a new four-month campaign at NEMEX today (April 20), CIBSE president elect Rob Manning said: 'The non-compliance costs campaign aims to bring together the many voices of frustration and concern to form one united call for action. We need to raise the issue of non-compliance up the government agenda and promote the benefits of increasing compliance rates.'

CIBSE has called on the UK government to acknowledge that air conditioning inspection compliance is not working and to replace Trading Standards with a body who will act.

CIBSE also says the government must set targets for air conditioning and F-gas compliance that the enforcing body agree are achievable and sign up to. It also urges the government to increase communication with UK companies informing them of their obligations to comply with air conditioning inspection and F-gas legislation.
