Through this framework, A-Gas will use its advanced recovery and reclamation capabilities to produce high-quality, low-GWP refrigerant blends patented by Solstice. These blends will consist of reclaimed hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and Solstice’s hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs). The blends are designed for use in existing refrigeration systems. This approach reduces the need for virgin refrigerant production while supporting emissions-reduction goals.
The agreement comes as Europe tightens conditions on the use of fluorinated gases, compelling the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) sector to reduce emissions while maintaining performance and energy efficiency. Next year, under the F-Gas quota system, the EU will mandate a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions from F-Gases. Because more than half of Europe’s installed base relies on HFCs or HFC/HFO blends, demand is growing for scalable and efficient low-GWP solutions that can be deployed across existing systems.
“Solstice brings a strong portfolio of HFO technologies to this collaboration, spanning refrigerants, blowing agents, aerosols and solvents,” said Julien Soulet, Vice President and General Manager EMEA, Solstice Advanced Materials. “By combining our Solstice branded solutions with A-Gas’ capabilities, we are advancing circular approaches and supporting customers with practical, lower-GWP options that maintain performance and are aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.”
“A-Gas is proud to partner with Solstice on this agreement to extend our combined Lifecycle Refrigerant Management activities during this key phase of the F-Gas transition,” said Jack Govers, CEO, A-Gas. “A-Gas’ Lifecycle Refrigerant Management model supports and enables end-of-life gases to be recovered, reclaimed to AHRI?700 standards and returned to the market. This process helps preserve valuable resources, avoid or minimise emissions and support compliance as the industry adapts to accelerated HFC phasedown requirements.”
Reclaimed HFC refrigerants from A-Gas will be combined with HFOs supplied by Solstice to produce blends for use across the existing refrigeration installed base. These blends enable lower-GWP performance within current systems, helping customers reduce emissions today while transitioning over time to next-generation technologies.
The blends are widely used in supermarket refrigeration systems, convenience-store display cases, cold-storage warehouses and refrigerated-transport applications such as temperature-controlled trucks and containers supporting the retail food cold chain..
