Advanced Air looks to drive forward R&D programme

Advanced Air’s general manager Andrew Sargent (pictured right) recently launched the company’s new corporate style and has unveiled an ambitious strategy for developing extra business for innovative products.

Speaking at a national sales conference, he told delegates that Advanced Air will be repositioning itself to take maximum advantage of the increased demand with a buoyant market. While retaining the market share for standard products, more effort will be put into supporting innovative designs on a project by project basis, Mr Sargent explained. Rather than using standard solutions the designer should be able to call on a manufacturer to develop a design specifically to meet the requirements of his project without incurring a cost penalty.

Advanced Air says it believes that by encouraging designers to positively look at ‘specials’ consultants will discover that solutions which are technically better than standard products could be relatively easily developed and manufactured.  This new strategy would require a restructuring of Advanced Air’s Technical and R&D departments and also re-education of its sales force and customers. Currently Advanced Air is working on a number of special products for specific projects and these will be launched over the next few months.

Andrew Sargent concluded his presentation by saying: “We must become more agile in design and manufacturing and innovative in our thinking. We must convey this new strategy to our customers and create a demand for our special designs. The solutions we discover probably will have applications outside of the specific project for which they are developed so in a way M&E designers would be driving our R&D programmes.”
