From this point onward the competition cycle would normally be in full swing, as apprentices aged 16+ from across the country compete in regional heats in an attempt to gain a coveted spot in the WorldSkills Final.
However, in the midst of the coronavirus, following government advice these regional heats have been postponed until further notice.
In relation to the recent developments regarding the coronavirus, Karena Cooper the SkillFRIDGE competition operating partner, has commented: “We are busy encouraging registrations, sponsor engagement and media activities. The outbreak of the COVID-19 is very concerning, and the health and safety of staff, judges and competitors is our number one priority.
“At this time, we are following advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England.
“As such we have decided not to hold any regional competitions until the danger has passed. We are in consultation with WSUK as to the next steps and timelines.”
