Plug fans are amongst many in a long line of products from ebm-papst which are available with energy saving EC motors. The range of consists of 8 sizes ranging from 250-560mm diameter capable of generating air flows of up to 13,500 m3/h and operate at back pressures up to 1400 pascals. As with all large ebm-papst EC motors, they can operate from 200V to 277V AC single-phase or 380V to 480V AC three-phase
power supplies at 50/60Hz.
With EFF2/IE2 AC induction motors being phased out over the next couple of years and EFF1/IE2 becoming the minimum efficiency standard by June 2011, it’s reassuring to know that ebm-papst EC motors already exceed the IE3 efficiency standards which are to be imposed in 2015. In fact we’ve been making EC products for so long now that we take their efficiency for granted and prefer to focus on the many other benefits such as simple controllability, improved functionality, low noise and long life expectancy.
Unlike AC motors, ebm-papst EC products have speed controllers built-in and only require a simple 0-10V DC input signal to facilitate infinitely variable speed control. This doesn’t mean that you need a separate DC supply because this is provided by a connection on the EC motor. The motors are virtually silent under speed control too, unlike AC motors using frequency inverter speed control where motor hum can be a particular problem, especially under part load conditions.
Additional functions made possible by the motor electronics include constant pressure or constant volume operation with a simple sensor connection, bus networking or remote monitoring and control through a PDA, Smartphone or Bluetooth interface.
Alternatively you may just want to take advantage of the quick and easy installation made possible by a choice of mounting arrangements. Half Scroll assemblies are ideal for applications where the air flow needs to be turned through 90º and can be mounted from either the flange or the base plate and H-Frame and X-Frame assemblies are perfect for AHUs, box fans or roof extract units.
