OEMs and Danfoss engineer the future of refrigeration and air conditioning in global Application Development Centers

In their ADCs, Danfoss works alongside OEMs to develop innovative refrigeration and air conditioning solutions that meet future energy challenges and bring new products to market faster within supermarket refrigeration, display cases, beer dispensers, chillers, rooftop units, variable refrigerant flow (VRF), transport refrigeration, and more:

With the opening of a brand new Application Development Center in Tallahassee, Florida, Danfoss cements its position as a technological pioneer within refrigeration and air conditioning. Globally, Danfoss now has four Cooling Application Development Centers (ADCs) where OEMs and Danfoss engineers collaborate in a test environment to create innovative cooling solutions for the future. Together, we accelerate ahead of our competitors and set the standards of tomorrow.

By 2050, it is expected that 66% of the world’s population will live in urban areas. That is 2.5 billion more people living in mega cities than currently do so, which the UN estimates as equivalent to adding 235 more cities the size of Paris. This remarkable growth creates challenges for housing, infrastructure, transportation, and energy. From residential buildings and offices, to hospitals, supermarkets, and data centers – the building sector accounts for 40% of global energy use.

“We partner with OEMs to help them incubate new-to-the-world innovations, meet new efficiency standards, improve quality and time-to-market, and reduce emissions and energy related costs. In our state-of-the-art test facilities, we provide laboratory capacity and industry-leading application knowledge. Together, we prepare for the transition to new refrigerants and support the industry in meeting the increasingly stringent regulations and standards shaping our future”, says Stefan Pietrek, Senior Director, Danfoss Global Applications.

Global test facilities with local expertise

The global network of four Danfoss Cooling Application Development Centers offers a great variety of automated test facilities for benchmarking, developing, remodelling, testing, and validating refrigeration and air conditioning products, components and applications 24/7, worldwide.

Each center offers expert support from a local team of highly educated laboratory personnel and two dozen global application experts with knowledge about compressors, controls, sensors, variable frequency controls, brazed plates, micro-channel heat exchangers, and much more.

Alice Riemer, Director, Global ADC, adds: “Our commitment goes beyond just delivering products. We’re more than just a supplier. In air conditioning alone, our deep application expertise covers up to 70% of the material for a chiller to help meet regulations backed by our rigorous quality control processes and innovation. Whether applying air cooled or water cooled, traditional or oil free technologies – Danfoss supports manufacturers to design or redesign their cooling applications – new or retrofit – in any climate and environment and with energy savings in focus.”
