J S Wright team take on Snowdonia Challenge

A team from Birmingham-based JS Wright has completed an arduous physical challenge through Snowdonia – raising more than £10,000 for charity.

The J S Wright team: from left to right, back row, Simon Newland, Phil Leech, John Stevenson, Matt Coy, Ryan Quinlan, Gerry Rea, John Heggs, Julie Wilcox, Alan Whyte and Jamie Dove; and front row, Lucy Heggs and Chris Lyons.

The 12 directors, employees and friends from the mechanical and electrical building services provider cycled, trekked and kayaked for six hours over a 36km route in a Snowdon Triple Challenge in memory of their colleague, Stuart Rouse, who died from cancer last year.

They beat their target of raising £10,000 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which supports the Royal Marsden Hospital. This was the cancer centre that treated Mr Rouse, who was a foreman at a work site and a close friend of the team.

The J S Wright team, from all levels of the company’s Birmingham and London operations including new managing director Phil Leech, were inspired by Stuart’s insistence on coming to work each day despite his illness and the vital care and support that he received from the Royal Marsden throughout his treatment.

Phil Leech said: “It was a fantastic day. Everyone in the team can feel proud of completing the challenge successfully and raising so much money, which will make a real difference to the Royal Marsden and all those affected by cancer.”

John Heggs, J S Wright associate director who led the team, said: “Our thanks go to all those clients, suppliers, employees and their families and friends for supporting us. We are already planning to repeat the challenge next year.”

Mr Heggs and Mr Leech were joined in the J S Wright team by Matt Coy, John Stevenson, Lucy Heggs, Alan Whyte, Ryan Quinlan, Jamie Dove, Gerry Rea, Simon Newland, Julie Wilcox and Chris Lyons.
