Beyond Refrigeration includes:
A template for steps toward net-zero heating and cooling, guiding discussions with end-users on seven key areas that must be addressed to work towards net-zero
Three policy briefs that suggest legislative and financial incentives -
Policies to support Heating and Cooling Policy options to support reducing the need for heating and cooling, achieving the best system performance, using the best available technology, balancing heating and cooling needs, whole-system sustainability and intelligent energy use.
Policies to support Developing the best people and skills Policy options to support the necessary change by all persons involved in using, designing, installing, servicing, maintaining, commissioning and decommissioning of heating and cooling to have a long term and lasting impact on achieving Net Zero through long term investment in people and skills.
Policies to support Refrigerant Selection To support Net Zero commitments equipment designers, purchasers, owners and operators should select a refrigerant with the lowest GWP possible - provided that this doesn’t compromise efficiency. This guidance note outlines the regulation, legislation and incentives needed to support this.
As well as case studies and links to other useful documents, reports, tools and initiatives.
Most recently Beyond Refrigeration has released a draft skills specification for consultation. The draft describes the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to develop the best people and skills to make significant progress in reducing carbon emissions from heating and cooling equipment. The knowledge, skills and behaviours suggested are in addition to current occupational experience or qualifications. They are not designed to replace current apprenticeship or other vocational and professional training but to supplement it, particularly for the existing workforce. Once finalised, the specification will be a tool that can be used by employers and those developing training courses to map their planned training and development activity.
