After hearing that thieves had stolen vital charity funds raised earlier this year, Fujitsu General Air Conditioning together with other companies co-sponsored this event to help replace the lost funds. The idea for the event was conceived by Fujitsu’s business development manager, Giles Pratt (Gilo), and his wife Maggie, who also helped organise the day.
The golf day was played in almost day-long sunshine on the 18 hole course, designed by the late, great, Seve Ballesteros. The Shire were fantastic hosts and the club generously donated all the green fees to help raise as much money as possible for the cause, which to date has raised over £250,000.
Former England football stars Neil 'Razor' Ruddock and Des Walker, together with world boxing champion Ben 'Duracell' Jones made up a Team Hanning 'all stars' foursome which narrowly lost out to Team Artell in a final play off. Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Will Norris donated a signed Wolves shirt for the raffle.
Those in attendance were also treated to a two-course banquet and a stand-up performance from comedian and TV star Ricky Grover.
Mr Pratt said: “The day was excellent, the sun was shining and people came to raise money with a smile. We are looking to raise just over £5,000 and we will be swinging back into action in 2019 to do this all over again”.
