Engie Refrigeration’s Quantum chillers ensure cooling supply at Hamburg Airport
The airport has already been running four Quantum chillers at Terminal 1 and on the premises of the German air traffic controller service DFS for several years.
The airport operator has now also awarded Engie Refrigeration the order for handling Terminal 2’s refrigeration. The refrigeration specialist will be installing an innovative refrigeration solution utilising three additional Quantum chillers.
Engie Refrigeration is now collaborating with engineers from Pinck Ingenieure Consulting to set up new refrigeration technology at Terminal 2. Three air-cooled Quantum chillers, each with a capacity of 1.35 megawatts, and four oil-free Turbocor compressors have already been installed on the roof of multi-storey car park P5.
Among the chillers’ prominent features are their extremely quiet operation and low vibration, of particular importance to the airport operator because the airport is located beside an area that includes residential housing.
The Quantum models meet all requirements for maximum efficiency and reliability, an absolute must in terms of safety for a site such as Hamburg Airport.
The new chillers will go online in late April. In the meantime, Engie Refrigeration is ensuring that the Quantum chillers in Terminal 1 supply optimum refrigeration for Terminal 2 as well.
Hamburg Airport is Germany’s oldest airport and ranks fifth in size, handling more than 17 million flight passengers a year.
Tried-and-tested technology
Engie Refrigeration has been supplying Quantum chillers to airports all over the world for 10 years now – from Bremen to Sri Lanka to Moscow.
At present, more than 60 Quantums with a total capacity of around 56,400kW ensure reliable, efficient cooling at airports.
